Difference between Inquiry and Trial

The distinction between Investigation and Inquiry

Inquiry Trial
In Inquiry if the judicial process is completed it will not result in acquittal/conviction. It may result in discharge or commitment to trial. A trial leads either to conviction or acquittal.
The inquiry may relate to an offence or a matter which is not an offence. For ex. Inquiry for deciding the issue of maintenance, possession, or Pubic nuisance. The trial is always of an offence.
